Benjamin Britten's (?-?) opera, "Peter Grimes" concerning the titular fisherman who is isolated by the small community around him, was completed by the composer just before the end of WWII, in January 1945 (it was the Englishman's second foray into the genre, after his collaboration with his equally-legendary, longtime friend, W H Auden, on "Paul Bunyan" ; a less serious and more satirical work that premiered in 1942).
Peter Grimes is a fisherman whose boy-apprentice drowns, while out at sea. The small community around Grimes, who have never particularly taken to the gruff fisherman, form suspicions and a mob mentality takes over ...
