String Quartets 1 & 2 - Janacek (1 with its edgy eroticism & 2's impassioned outpourings - CFP 202)

£5.99

Product description

(featuring the Janacek String Quartet, in an Early Sixties recording, that was originally released on the redoubtable East European label, Supraphon)

Leos Janacek's first String Quartet was completed by 1923. Edgy and erotic in its overall feel, this was yet another of Janacek's works that was, at least partly, inspired by the reading of Tolstoy's novel "Kreutzer Sonata", the basic outline of which, is the story of the tragic love of a woman disillusioned by her marriage, then deceived by her lover.
Side One : String Quartet No.1, by Janacek :-
1) I Adagio. Con moto 2) II Con moto 3) III Con moto. Vivace. Andante 4) IV Con moto. Adagio.

Sometimes referred to as Leos Janacek's "Manifesto on Love", his String Quartet No.2 was completed in 1928, at the ripe old age of 74. It's official title is the very apt "Intimate Pages", and so it is ; this work being so full of fresh. dramatic and passionate musical ideas, which owes its origin to the old man's strong, and ultimately fateful, attachment to a young woman, Kamila Stosslova.
Side Two : String Quartet No.2, by Janacek :-
1) I Andante 2) II Adagio 3) III Moderato 4) IV Allegro.

Records graded visually to RRPG grades (record/sleeve) EX-/VG+.
