£9.99

Product description

Tchaikovsky The Sleeping Beauty Ballet Suite Opus 66

1. Introduction - The Lilac Fairy
The suite opens with the beginning of the orchestral introduction to the Prologue, which represents the wicked fairy Carabosse. This is followed by the charming theme of the Lilac Fairy on oboes, which is here take from the finale to the first act.
2. Pas d'action
This is danced by the Princess in the first act; it is one of Tchaikovsky's most famous ballet adagios.
3. Pas de caractere (Puss in boots and the White cat)
This dance is taken from the divertissement which forms part of the wedding festivities in the last act. It is danced by a big grey tom who pursues a white puss; she is coquettish, and finally scratches him, after which he chase her off the stage. Not the orchestral miaows.
4. Panorama
This music accompanies the princes journey through the tangled forest, after he has been shown the vision of the Princess, to the castle where she lies sleeping.
5. Valse
This well-known waltz, one of Tchaikovskys finest and most attractive pieces in this form, comes from the beginning of the first act, where it accompanies some genial festivity and jollification. Throughout the ballet, Tchaikovskys music shows the hand of a master; each dramatic point is underlined in a exact and fitting manner, and the wealth of melody and invetion make it one of the most succesful works, from the musical point of view, that he ever wrote.
