Part of the BBC Legends Great Performers of the Twentieth Century series/collection of CDs from BBC Music.

This edition celebrates conductor Carol Maria Giulini's 90th birthday.. He conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, soloists (soprano Ilva Ligabue, mezzo-soprano Grace Bumbry, tenor Sándor Kónya, bass Raffaele Arié) and Philharmonia Choir (Chorus Master: Wilhelm Pitz) in two pieces by the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901. The second CD ends with a conversation conducted by Giulini with Michael Oliver.
The La forza del destino Overture was recorded at Royal Festival Hall, London on 16 May 1961 and the Requiem at the same venue on 26 April 1964.
