This gift in action

Beat UK poverty

Jenny* is a care worker. She enjoys her job, but since nearly two thirds of her hours aren’t contracted, she lives with the constant worry that she won’t be able to afford food or heating. Jenny just about manages to get by – but because many of her hours are ‘sleepover shifts’, her average hourly pay works out below the National Living Wage. Jenny is not alone – she represents the thousands of working people across the UK who face poverty every day. Your gift means that people like Jenny will be able to learn life-changing new skills – a vital route out of poverty. It also means Oxfam can pressure governments and employers in the UK to make working life fairer for everyone. *Name has been changed.
