Wedding pair of poverty-busting pigs

£46.00

Product description

Living in poverty, families can struggle to put food on the table and support their loved ones. But the chance to earn a decent income can change everything – and help people to beat poverty for good. That’s why Oxfam provides training for farmers, to help them grow more crops, raise more animals and earn more income. It’s why we provide pigs and chickens to help them get started. And it’s why we help farmers with brilliant, poverty-busting ideas to share them with others. Gifts like this one make it all possible. In Northern Rwanda, where many families struggle with poverty, Oxfam is providing women with pigs, along with training in rearing and breeding. The farmers can use the pigs’ manure and piglets can be sold to pay for essentials like food and education.

This gift supports our Making a Living (ML) projects.

Wedding pair of poverty-busting pigs

Agnes lives in Northern Rwanda. Life hasn’t been easy – but with a little help from people like you, things are changing. Agnes is now president of a pig cooperative, she’s learned how to rear pigs and is earning a decent living. “When I got the pigs, I was filled with joy! I will send my grandchild to school with the income I earn,” she says. Agnes has also built her confidence and made new friends. “I used to feel scared because of loneliness. But nothing scares me anymore.”
