A David Pownall Collection [4 1st edition titles, three SIGNED]

£29.99

Product description

The Raining Tree War (Pownall's first novel) appeared in 1974, a gloriously funny, but also deadly serious, tale set in a fictional African country.

Our 1st edition, 1st impression copy is in good general condition, with an unclipped dust jacket showing only minor edge wear and tearing to top & bottom of the spine. The book is bound in purple cloth, and shows only minimal external signs of wear - slight shelf wear to top & tail of spine, a little fading to edges, and some almost invisible stains. Title etc in gilt on spine. Inside, the binding is firm with no loose pages; all pages clean & bright. No foxing.

My Organic Uncle (1976) was Pownall's first collection of stories. These explore the stranger comedies and ironies of life, and introduce some unique characters, both from Europe and Africa.

Our 1st edition, 1st impression copy is signed by the author on the front fep. The unclipped dust jacket is in good general condition apart from some minor tearing at the top of the spine. The book itself, bound in bright blue cloth with title etc in silver lettering on the spine, is externally immaculate, and inside shows no signs of wear or use. A very nice copy.

God Perkins (1977) is described as the 'Good Companions' of the 1970s, and features a collection of theatrical characters and the difficulties and problems they face in producing a new play in a ramshackle old theatre.

Our 1st edition, 1st impression copy is in good general condition, and bears the author's signature on the front fep. The unclipped dust jacket is almost undamaged, apart from a strange little triangular nick at the top of the back. The book itself, bound in brick-red cloth with title etc in gilt lettering on the spine, shows no external signs of wear or use apart from a slight crumple at the foot of the back cover (see photo). Inside, the binding is firm with no loose pages; all pages clean and bright. A very nice copy.

Light on a Honeycomb (1978) is another novel set in a fictional town, and exploring yet another world situated in the underlying geological limestone layer. Offering yet further opportunity for the author to display his comedic talent and imaginative boldness.

Our 1st edition, 1st impression copy is in very nice condition, and retains its unclipped dust jacket, which shows almost no signs of wear. The book itself is bound in pale khaki cloth with black title etc on the spine, and likewise shows no external signs of wear or use. Author's signature is on front fep. Inside, the binding is firm with no loose pages; all pages clean and bright. A very nice copy.
