Charles Griffin & Company 1875. Rare and collectable hardback with no dust jacket in fair/ good condition - some light marking/ fading to boards/ spine and light bumping to top and bottom of spine. Pages are lightly tanned with light foxing throughout and to edge of text block.
Some light damage to back hinge - binding is good. There is an owners name in ink on inside front board.


This manual comprises a system of elementary chemistry as applied to dyeing with receipts for the general reader for dyeing any colour on cotton, silk and wool with coloured pattern of cloth of each fabric. A third edition published in 1875 by Charles Griffin and Co.

James Napier F.R.S.E, F.C.S. (1810 – 1884) was a renowned Scottish chemist who pioneered important advances in industrial chemistry and lodged many patents. He was a member of the Glasgow Philosophical Society where he presented 32 papers. This fascinating book includes small swatches of fabric to illustrate each colour of dye.
