Product description

First edition 1898, in original binding so very scarce. Blue cloth covered boards with silver titles on the front and spine. Wear at the corners and top & base of the spine, with insect damage at the lower edge of the front board which in two places extends slightly onto the lower edge of the text block. Chipping at the lower edge of the spine and a short tear in the cloth at the top of the front hinge. Light surface scuffing on the boards and spine. Dark blue endpapers. Hinges are cracked at both endpapers, at the front the first and second (fly title page) free endpapers are detached. Small owner name dated 1960 on the reverse of the first free endpaper, no other inscriptions and the text block binding is sound. Light foxing on the endpapers. Good condition overall. Illustrated and multi-lingual. Text in English, French, German and Italian.  Original first edition of this  annual reference book of information on all the world's warships arranged by nation, including information on ships' names, dimensions, armaments, silhouettes etc.

Oxfam Bookshop Lymington

Lymington is on the South coast, bordering on the New Forest National Park which was created as a Royal Forest in 1079 by William the Conqueror, and first recorded as 'Nova Foresta' in the Doomsday Book in 1086. Our Oxfam Shop at 73, The High Street is in a lovely Georgian building, the tallest in Lymington. The elegant Georgian buildings lining the wide main street were built mostly for merchants in the local salt trade. The famous Saturday market brings the town to life with its variety of stalls. The area is renowned for outdoor pursuits, including camping, sailing, windsurfing, and surfing, as well as forest walks and horse riding.
