American Pictures : A Personal Journey Through the American Underclass

£19.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

"From 1971 to 1976, Dane Jacob Holdt hitch-hiked around the United States, photographing his experience of living with America's poor. Virtually penniless, he lived with people he met during his travels, periodically selling his blood plasma in order to buy film. At various times he stayed with poverty-stricken rural blacks in the South, the American Indian Movement during the siege at Wounded Knee, and with heroin addicts in a "shooting gallery" in Harlem. The resulting photographs comprise a nightmarish catalogue of poverty and oppression in America, the publication of which Holdt hopes will lead to drastic social reform." (LensCullture). Colour and black and white photographs by the author throughout. Good copy. Some wear to cover and spine. Corners bumped
