An Addiction to Automobiles

WAS £14.99 £7.49

Product description

Maurice Platt is one of those rare people who have achieved distinction in two very different worlds - as a writer about the motor industry, and as one of the leading engineers within the industry. It is at times striking to see how in his very human autobiography he compounds the insider's view with a refreshing objectivity. He remembers a long and dynamic period in the evolution of the automobile. During his days as 'The Motor's' technical editor he played an active part in the controversies of the day. He boldly advocated such innovations as front-wheel brakes and automatic transmission (in the 1920s) which brought him into contact with legendary pioneers such as Lanchester, Austin, Ricardo and Pomeroy.

The book is excellent, with maroon boards and gilt titles. The jacket has light general marks and rubbing, and the edges have slight creasing plus chips and wear especially to corners and spine ends. Inside, pages are bright; there is a former owner's name printed on a sticker on the front end paper, and it is to that person that the author has written and signed a dedication on the half title.
