An Architectural Survey Of The Churches In The Archdeaconry Of Lindisfarne (1870)

£49.99

Product description

'An Architectural Survey Of The Churches In The Archdeaconry Of Lindisfarne In The County of Northumberland. Containing plans and views of seventy-nine fabrics and sketches of the principal antiquities in them' was published in 1870 by Lambert of Newcastle upon Tyne. The condition of the book is good overall, given its age. There are approximately 200 b/w engravings, including numerous folding architectural plans. The author gives detailed commentary on each church in a thorough and engaging style. The binding has been repaired but has wear to the edges of the brown cloth boards and the spine is very worn. There is foxing to the endpapers and some spotting throughout. There is also a bookplate and signatures to the front end papers. This volume includes a letter (attached to the rear end paper) from Sarah Wilson dated 1897 (the author's wife). There are also two newspaper cuttings pasted in: one announcing the death of Sarah Wilson (dated 1915) and one of north country steeples and towers (dated 1892).
