Internally the book is in really good condition. Spine ends and bottom outer corner edges are bumped, a couple of pale marks on the front board - see photo. Some of the pages are rough-cut at the front edge. Some reference to pages written neatly in pencil on back free endpaper. The hinge is very slightly cracked between 16 and 17, but the book is still very tight, just a very few pages have one ore two spots of foxing, and no foxing on any of the illustrations. ix, 281pp. With 15 attractive tipped-in water-colours by Henry W. Kerr, R.S.A. Each Chapter refers to one year, commencing with year 1760 to 18-10. The Chronicle of Dalmailing during the Ministry of the Rev. Micah Balwhidder.

A novel by John Galt. The book provides a humorous and realistic account of a typical parish minister of the late 18th and early 19th century, the way of life in rural Scotland, and the social changes of the Industrial Revolution. First published in 1821. This a reprint 1931.
