Architecture in Britain: 1530-1830

£34.99

Product description

Architecture in Britain: 1530-1830 - John Summerson.

Harmondsworth: Penguin Books, revised and rearranged edition, 1955. pp 374.
Part of the Pelican History of Art series.

Sombre dust jacket with 6 cm tears to tops of all faces and a matchbox sized piece missing from front face top. Heavily shelf worn and sunned to spine, chipped all round and corners generally frayed. Not clipped (45/-)

Red cloth boards with fine gilt Penguin crest to centre; black leather title panel to spine and gilt titles. The spine appears faded (despite the jacket.)
All edges and corners excellent. Slight wobble to spine structure. Very good binding, top edges blue. There is an inexplicable 20 page dent in the block edge.
Book plate of owner glue to washy-pink paste down. The pink has intruded down the edge of pages 355/6. All pages tanned, block edges tanned.

23 pages of notes and bibliography followed by 191 b/w plates of architectural finery throughout the nation (including a few of the USA.)

This is a very thorough and serious study of the subject, carrying a printed dedication to Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. O.M. R.A. senior trustee of Sir John Sloane's Museum.

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
