Auntie Robbo

£29.99

Product description

Auntie Robbo
Ann Scott-Moncrieff
Illustrated in monochrome by Christopher Brooker
Constable & Co, London, 1959; reprinted 1960.
Hardback; 140 x 205 mm; light blue boards with gold titles on spine; 192 pages. Original unclipped dust jacket.
The book is in good condition. The binding is sound and tight. The dust jacket is itself protected by a transparent jacket. The spine of the jacket is tanned, there are very slight chips visible, and the jacket appears to be slightly grubby, discoloured, and marked. The boards have a couple of dents on their edges. The spine of the book is slightly bumped at each end, and is slightly faded. The top edges of the boards are faded, and the page ends appear tanned. There is a black mark on the recto of the front free endpaper where something appears to have been obliterated. The odd finger mark here and there, and a closed tear page 191/192.
This is the tale of Hector, an orphan boy of 11 who lives happily with his 81 year-old feisty and eccentric great-aunt Robina. When his stepmother turns up to claim him, the pair go on the run, picking up some other stray children and having marvellous adventures as they try to stay one step ahead of the persistent Merlissa Benck. A charming and thrilling tale is likely to delight readers with its wit and warmth, and the fantastic central character of 'Auntie Robbo'. The illustrations by Christopher Brooker are equally delightful and attractive.
