The panel paintings of The Sleeping Beauty, by Léon Bakst, were commissioned by James de Rothschild in 1913. The work was completed in 1923 and adorned the walls of 34 Park Street in London and subsequently, in 1930, of 23 St James's Place. From 1993 the paintings will be on indefinite loan at Waddeson Manor in Buckinghamshire.


Philip Wilson Publishers, London, 1992, 1992. 30.0 x 22.0cms, 128pp, b/w & colour illusts, very good hardback with navy blue clover cover (of 1500 copies; David Rothschild's inscription 8.11.1992) James Rothschild commissioned these 7 paintings in 1913 and Leon Bakst completed them in 1923. They hung at 34 Park Street, London and at 23 James Place. The chapters are: The Sleeping Beauty & the ballets Russes; james de Rothschild's commission; Charles Perrault's Sleeping beauty; the annotated panels. Seller Inventory # 155747
