Beauty: illustrated chiefly by an analysis and classification of beauty in woman

£32.50

Product description

Sub title “Preceded by a critical view of the general hypotheses respecting beauty, by Hume, Hogarth, Burke, Knight, Alison, etc. and followed by a similar view of the hypotheses of beauty in sculpture and painting, by Leonardo da Vinci, Winckelmann, Mengs, Bossi, etc.”.

There are some 22 line drawings together with a frontispiece, each illustration having a protective tissue. One page is blank on pp 207/8; it has the tissue and the slightly thicker paper but without the drawing. The remainder of the pictures are in good condition. The drawings from life on paper are by Henry Howard.

Bohn hardback with no DJ. The boards are covered with black cloth and have an embossed pattern. The spine cover is completely detached; it too has the pattern and gilt lettering. The front board is stained and there is foxing and tanning throughout. The binding is in need of re-tightening. There is a label on the reverse of the front board.

In need of TLC but a nice book. It is heavy and some negotiation may be needed for postal charge.

Oxfam Books & Music Totnes

Welcome to Totnes Oxfam Shop. Our shop is to be found in The Narrows; an historic part of Totnes town and has become a 'must visit' place for locals and visitors alike. Through the generosity of our local community, the volunteers in the shop, and the world-wide selling community of we have raised tens of thousands of pounds for Oxfam, and in the process developed a reputation for maximising the value of our donations; particularly specialist subject books and classical vinyl. We have many years of experience with online shopping, having a small and friendly group of volunteers specialising in this area, who have a reputation for excellent customer service.
