Bicycle Thieves

£39.99

Product description

This novel was the basis of the film of the same name, directed by Vittorio De Sica in 1948. The novel tells the story of a poor father searching post-World War II Rome for his stolen bicycle, without which he will lose the job which was to be the salvation of his young family.

Luigi Bartolini (1892–1963) was an Italian painter, writer, and poet, best known for his novel "Bicycle Thieves", but also author of some 70 other titles.

Our copy comes with its attractive dust jacket (unclipped) designed in a lively fifties style, with some darkening to the spine, general grubbiness attributable to age, and some minor tearing and chipping at edges and corners. The book itself is bound in black cloth with title etc in red on the spine. The covers have one or two very tiny whitish spots, and there is some minimal bumping of the top front corner and a crease at the top front angle of the spine, but otherwise no external defects. Inside, the front fep is missing, and the rear fep is quite severely browned, but there is no foxing, the binding is firm with no loose pages, and all pages are clean and bright.
