Birds of Cyprus

£24.99

Product description

Cyprus has always been of great interest to naturalists. Its geographical position makes it of special concern to the ornithologist for, lying almost due north of Suez and the Delta of the Nile, it is in the path of countless migratory birds passing to and from Europe and Asia. Indeed, of the 342 species and subspecies discussed by the authors, only a small proportion are permanent residents, though summer visitors swell the breeding population. Of the permanent residents fourteen are of particular interest as being peculiar to Cyprus. Dr and Mrs Bannerman have visited nearly every accessible part of the island and they have personally identified two thirds of the total bird population. Each species in this book is described separately in terms of appearance, distribution migration and breeding habits. A great many birds are illustrated in line drawings by the late George E. Lodge and other famous artists and there are sixteen magnificent full page plates in colour depicting forty four species. In addition, 14 full page half tone plates by the late Major Henry Jones have been reproduced. With dust jacket over a green cloth binding.
The dust jacket is blue with black titling and a painting of birds on the cover. The dust jacket is edge-worn, and has surface rubbing, causing patches of white discolouration. The page edges are clean and inside the pages are fresh and clean.
