Black Bob was the name of a Border Collie dog that appeared in The Dandy from 1944 until 1982. Only eight Black Bob annuals were issued: 1950, 1951, 1953, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961 and 1965, each printed in the preceding autumn, as with all D C Thomson's annuals, so as to capture Christmas sales. This annual appears to be the 1961 edition, although the volume is undated, and has "The Boot For Black Bob" as first story.
Published by D.C. Thompson/John Leng, London, the annual is in a fair condition. It has pictorial laminated boards and no dustjacket. The boards are a little rubbed, grubby and bruised. The red spine is faded and bumped with some cracking to the lamination. The text pages are free from marks, although the top edge of the page block is a little spotted and there is light tanning throughout. Altogether, this is a charming, and relatively rare, book.
