£35.00

Product description

Alexander Duckham hardback 1939 Ogilby, John Facsimile reprint of 1675. 108pp including 100 colour plates. Overall very good condition. No dust jacket, Pale green-brown boards with red panel on front board and two red panels on the spine. Gilt lettering and embellishment. Very slight shelfwear to spine, corners a little bumped. A brown 'shadow across the front red panel. Page edges lightly tanned. Inside, feps tanned. Faint green inscription from previous owner on ffep. Otherwise in very good condition.

Duckham's reprinted historical maps. In 1939, to celebrate its 40th birthday. Alexander Duckham wrote the foreword, pasted inside the front cover, noting that he had hunted "in later years" for a complete set of the maps. These maps were not, of course intended for use by motorists but "on this, our 40th birthday, I ask you to accept as a token of goodwill this copy of something prized by myself".

An iconic map of interest to local historians and a minor work of art.
