Celebrated Violinists Past and Present

£29.99

Product description

Scare 1897 edition translated from the German version by A. Ehrlich giving an alphabetical list and biographical sketch of "some of the greatest of stringed instrument players than room could be found for in an ordinary biographical dictionary". Contains 79 black and white portraits of violinists such as Viotti, Ole Bull, Spohr, Paganini, Ernst and Brodsky.
The hardbacked copy is in very good condition for its age. There is some rubbing to the edges and corners of the burgundy cloth plates and spine, which have gilt lettering and an illustration. Inside there is some tanning to the pages and foxing to the endpapers and title page, and the pages at the back containing the publishers adverts haven't been cut from each other at the edges. There is also a signature of prior ownership and a red mark along the bottom edges of the leaves. A rare copy an of great historical interest for those interested in the great violists!
