Common Ailments and their Cure. Vols 1 & 2

£39.99

Product description

Common Ailments and their Cure. Vols 1 & 2

London. The offices of the Weekly Telegraph, 180 & 181 Fleet Street, and Sheffield, High Street. pp 128 & 110, plus lengthy gazettes.
The unstated publication dates present a challenge but Book 1 carries an advert on p6 dated 1901 and Book 2 carries a tiny advert on the inside back cover dated 1906.

Paperback editions (book 1 buff; book 2 blue) bearing fatherly images of Dr Andrew Wilson. Book 1 title page states "Common Ailments and their Cures" not cure.
By Book 2 the advertised price of 6d net has morphed to 6d nett.

Vol 1 recommends the external application of certain herbal remedies for curing cancer but by vol 2 the subject is given weightier treatment, with a somewhat humble commentary (pp 31-32).
The books are both in good condition but require careful handling. The covers are a little frayed and dog eared and the staples are rusting. The advertisers' gazettes make for fascinating reading.

All pages are tanned and they do actually appear to have been turned, as though the copies resided in a doctor's surgery or similar.

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
