Product description

Title: Designs for the Theatre

Author: Rex Whistler

With appreciations by:

Cecil Beaton

James Laver

Laurence Whistler

Rex Whistler was perhaps the most talented and original designer for the English theatre during the first half of the present century. The three volumes of The Masque which form this book fittingly comemorate his work. The text consists of three appreciations of Rex Whistler and his designs by Cecil Beaton, James Laver and Laurence Whistler, as well as a complete list of the theatrical productions for which he made designs. In the twenty colour plates and monochrome illustrations will be found a valuable and beautiful record of many of Rex Whistler's most enchanting designs, among them those for An Ideal Husband, Love for Love, Streamline, Victoria Regina, Pride and Prejudice, The Rake's Progress and Fidelio.

The book is in fair condition throughout.

As can be seen from the pictures the book has text and supporting pictures throughout.

The book has green boards with a red and gold illustration on the front and back and red lettering to the spine.

As can be seen from the photographs the front endpages have an inscription in the upper outer corner.

The front endpages have foxing.

The rear endpages have foxing.

The dust jacket is in fair condition.

The spine has been faded by sunlight and the lettering has been rubbed away.
