The full title of the work is: Domestic Medicine, or, A Treatise on the Prevention And Cure Of Diseases, by Regimen And Simple Medicines: With Observations concerning Sea-Bathing, And on The Use of The Mineral Waters. To which is annexed A Dispensatory For The Use Of Private Practitioners. This is the 20th edition, published in 1807, containing considerable additions and notes by A P Buchan. Divided into two Parts, the first dealing with the causes of diseases and the second with diseases themselves, plus an Appendix listing medicines in use at the time, their dosages and methods of preparation. Full leather, with gilt ruling on the spine and the title in gilt on a red leather label in the second band. The boards and spine are quite heavily marked and worn, with rubbing to the edges and the spinal margins, and with rubbed and bumped corners. The front and rear hinges are weakening, the front free end paper is consequently loosening, but the book is otherwise tightly bound. Pages 611-624 have folded lower corners, and the rear free end paper has vertical folds. The pages are age-tanned, and there is light foxing throughout. Overall in very good condition for its age.
