England, Their England by A. G. Macdonnell

£15.99

Product description

This copy of England, Their England by A. G. Macdonnell is a reprint of the 1933 satirical novel. It has green cloth boards with a dust jacket and is in very good condition. The jacket is water-stained, sun faded and a little bit tatty but the boards are clean and have very little shelf wearing. The spine is cocked and has the title and author's name in gilt on it. There is some foxing to the FFEP and FBED along with evidence on the page edges of it too.

England, Their England is a study in the form of a story of English character and characteristics made by Donald Cameron, a young Scot from Aberdeenshire, who is inspired by a desire to write a book in the subject. He comes to London and sets about collecting material for his purpose. He attends a fashionable weekend house-party, a cricket match, a Rugby football match, and has a day's golf at one of the large clubs near London. He goes to Geneva to find out how the English act in international affairs, and among his many other activities, he spend some time in Buckinghamshire with a landed proprietor, which teaches him much about English village life.

"A joy to read... I cannot remember any passage (describing a cricket match) which has made me laugh so much... A book which must certainly not be missed." - Ralph Straus (Sunday Times)
