Every Woman's Encyclopedia

£100.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

Seven volumes of an eight volume set (volume 7 missing), this collection covers an eclectic range of subjects which were deemed essential knowlege for a woman in 1912. These included such topics as the running of the home, pets, recreation and beauty. There are also medical and legal sections and a Woman's Who's Who listing female celebrities of the day. Amongst the recreations suggested are 'How to Handle a Canadian Canoe' and 'Motoring for Women.' The sections headed 'Woman's Work' include information on dentistry, the civil service, registrars of births and deaths and 'How to Become a Society Entertainer.'

The books are bound in red cloth with gilt titles to the spines. All show signs of wear and tear and a number are marked. The corners are generally bumped and the cloth on the lower front corner of volume 5 has worn away. The same volume also has a tear to the lower rear hinge and tears along the internal hinges. The spine of volume 8 also has minor tears along the spine. The binding of all volumes appears to be tight.
