Product description

Original green cloth hard covers with black titles and illustrations on the spine and front. The spine is sunned and discoloured with some mottling, bumping and wear at the top and base. The spine cover is almost detached at the front hinge. The boards have some surface marking and light edge and corner wear; the lower rear corner is bumped. Page edges are foxed. Gift inscription on the first free endpaper dated 1931. Title pages and the corresponding final few pages are lightly foxed. Lovely illustrations from Harry Clarke which made his international reputation as one of the key illustrators during the golden age of gift-book illustration, and began his prolific career as an illustrator. Containing forty plates, sixteen of which are in colour. One of the colour plates is detached. 25.5cm x 20cm.

Oxfam Bookshop Lymington

Lymington is on the South coast, bordering on the New Forest National Park which was created as a Royal Forest in 1079 by William the Conqueror, and first recorded as 'Nova Foresta' in the Doomsday Book in 1086. Our Oxfam Shop at 73, The High Street is in a lovely Georgian building, the tallest in Lymington. The elegant Georgian buildings lining the wide main street were built mostly for merchants in the local salt trade. The famous Saturday market brings the town to life with its variety of stalls. The area is renowned for outdoor pursuits, including camping, sailing, windsurfing, and surfing, as well as forest walks and horse riding.
