Publisher: Printed and published for proprietor by Eyre and Spottiswoode at 17 Furnival Street, London, 1903. 1st thus. Comprises Vol 1 monthly numbers 1 to 8 (April to Nov 1903) of Flora and Sylva specially bound by the publisher in Dec 1903 into one large and impressive, deluxe hardback volume , 324 pages, no dustjacket. Printed on thick, high quality paper with uncut edges. The impressive cover, in cream cloth boards with cream vellum spine and corners and gilt titling to spine, is in generally sound, undamaged condition - however there are a fair amount of stains and handling marks to the cloth boards and some light tanning and light handling marks to the vellum spine and corners. The cover is detached from the book, the front and rear hinge having split at the endpapers no doubt due to the weight of the book - the book itself is still firmly bound however and a suitable repair to reattach the cover should be straightforward. Internally the book is in generally sound, clean, firm and bright condition with clean and clear text pages and splendid black and white photographs and drawings. A little foxing to endpapers and preliminaries and tanning to text block edges. Some grubby handling marks on front paste-down. Closed edge tears to the two blank pages before the endpapers. Overall, this is a magnificently bound and beautifully illustrated large deluxe volume packed with fascinating gardening knowledge, history, gardening lore, garden design and detailed plant and tree information. Needs a little TLC to reattach the magnificent cover to the book and will then be a truly wonderful book to own!
