£100.00

Product description

History of the 4th Battalion the Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s): Campaign in N W Europe June 1944 – May 1945

“This book is presented to you by Lt-Col C G Lipscomb and all Ranks of the 4th Bn The Somerset Light Infantry.”

For private circulation only in The Somerset Light Infantry.

The Phoenix Press, Taunton; nd.

Hardback; 140 x 210 mm; dark green boards with gold titles on front cover; 140 pages plus fold-out map at the back; other maps within text. No dust jacket.

The book is in very good condition. The binding is sound. Minimal wear to the covers. Pencil annotation on the fly title. Minor foxing and marks internally.

Although undated, the contents suggest that this account of the battalion’s service in the campaign in north-west Europe was compiled shortly after the end of World War II when records would have been readily available and memories fresh. It is detailed and deals with the actions in which the battalion was involved chronologically. It includes the order of battle on 24 June 1944, and on 8 May 1945; the Roll of Honour, officers and other ranks; the Roll of Officers and Warrant Officers who served during the campaign; the list of Honours and Awards; and finally Decorations and Awards – Extracts from Citations 1944-45.
