Both the front and covers are moderately rubbed and slightly frayed along the spine edges. The pages of the book are gilt-edged. There is slight soiling to the inside of the covers and to the front and rear free end papers. There is some tanning to the reverse of the frontispiece. There is light to moderate foxing to the front and rear end papers, to the tissue protecting the frontispiece and to several of the index pages. There is light foxing to some of the main pages. Pages 139 to 142 are slightly loose.

Although the covers and spine are detached, the binding is firm.
