How Girls Can Help to Build up the Empire

£100.00

Product description

How Girls Can Help to Build up the Empire: The Handbook for Girl Guides - Miss Baden-Powell and Sir Robert Baden-Powell

Thomas Nelson and Sons, 1912. pp472.

No jacket. Blue cloth , spine sun-faded and frayed. Boards, cocked and rather loose but still firmly attached. Front board slightly ink stained. Top edge gilt. Front inner hinge is rather cracked.

Frontispiece b/w photograph of a patrol leader holding a flag. Title page has small portion missing from bottom corner. Pages are tanned and well-turned; the owner did apparently read this book from cover to cover and hopefully absorbed some of its numerous tips for survival in a changing world. Delightful b/w photographs of young guides tending a broken thigh, drawings of Miss Baden-Powell riding through a hoop. It is all in here, including important sections on hygiene, navigation, meteorology, self-sacrifice and general godliness. Classic Girl Guiding text.

At the back is a section of blank pages for personal notes; that carries a half page listing of girls' names, in pencil.

Wonder how this unique item ended up online?

Most of the second-hand items you see online have been donated, by supporters like you, to our high street stores. Each item is then priced, photographed and listed on this site by our amazing team of volunteers from across the country.

After you have bought your item, our team of volunteers package and dispatch it from the Shop straight to you or your chosen recipient.

All profits from the sales of our goods go towards funding Oxfam's work around the world. We rely on your donations to sell online so please keep the cycle of goodness going!

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
