Impressionist and Modern Paintings and Drawings The Mr. and Mrs. George N. Richard Collection

£4.99

Product description

Title: Impressionist and Modern Paintings and Drawings The MR. and Mrs George N Richard Collection

New York

Tuesday November 14 1989

Christie's

Extract from the Introduction:

Of the fifteen works for sale many combine bold structure with scenes of quiet intimacy. The strong outlines of Chez la couturiere l'essayage by Edgar Degas, for instance, are an appealing foil for the self - absorbed deliberations taking place between the customer and the dressmaker. The pastel by Renoir pits firm strokes of strong color against a demure subject. The five works by Vuillard have an intensity belied by their modest size. Cipa Godebski et Misia Natanson, representing two of the artist's close friends, brother and sister, is both shadowy and revealing, and the painting of Vuillard's patron and publisher (Monsieur Natanson dans sa bibliotheque) masterfully shifts the focus from the man to his books. Bonnard was able to capture a touching moment when he painted one of his nieces sharing her supper with her cat, L'enfant au chat, both seeming to have just licked their lips.

The book has green boards and gilt lettering to the spine and upper board.

There is an indent in the lower edge of the spine of the board.

The upper outer corner of the upper board has bumping.

The dust jacket is in good condition.

The dust jacket has an illustrated cover and black lettering to the spine and front and rear covers.

The upper outer corner of the front of the dust jacket has bumping.

The upper and lower outer corner of the rear of the dust jacket has wear and tear.

The upper edge of the front and rear of the dust jacket has wear.

The front and rear endpages have foxing.
