This catalogue accompanied an exhibition at The National Gallery of Ireland, the Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin, and the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery of Modern Art, Dublin, in 1987. The exhibition addresses Irish women artists over the period from the 18th-century to the late 20th-century.
The exhibition contained 137 works and these are illustrated in b/w with 32 also being illustrated in colour as full or half page plates, from Susanna Drury’s “The East Prospect of the Giant’s Causeway”, before 1740, the first trustworthy recording of this fascinating site, to “Study of Three Heads”, 1986, by Eithne Jordan. A detail from Harriet Hockley Townshend’s “Winter”, 1911, showing the influence of Orpen, is reproduced on the front cover.
The spine is lightly faded and the cover is a bit bumped on the corners. Light yellowing to the margins.
