Signed on title page "To Iris with best wishes. Am glad you joined us at the Frogmore! Sam Rocket. July 1962."

Sam Rockett (1919 - 1989) was a talented swimmer who was proud to be one of only nine swimmers to finish the First Daily Mail International Channel Race on 22nd August 1950. Rockett was also the first British person in the race to arrive back in the UK. In the book he gives a complete history of Channel-swimming, from the first by Captain Webb in 1875 up to 1955, including his own successful swim in 1950. Sam Rockett lived in Folkestone and the Frogmore mentioned was a well known tea room in Folkestone.
