Jake the Dog: An Animal Story

£19.99

Product description

Jake the Dog: An Animal Story

Norah C James

Illustrated by Ruth Vale

J M Dent & Sons Ltd, London: First published 1933.

Hardback; 145 x 195 mm; blue boards with titles in black on spine and pictorial front cover; x & 109 pages, top edge painted. Original unclipped dust jacket.

The book is in fair condition. The binding is sound. The dust jacket is grubby, particularly the spine, with a few open and closed tears. The covers of the book, again particularly the spine, are badly stained, and this has marked the inside of the dust jacket. Tanning of the front and back matter. Verso of the front free endpaper annotated in pencil with a name and “5/-“.

Norah C James (1896 – 1979) was a prolific English novelist. She “turned aside from writing novels and gave us in Tinkle the Cat a remarkably true and sympathetic record of a day in a cat’s life.” In Jake the Dog “she brings her sympathy, insight, and literary skill to the recording of a dog’s day. Both in the country and in London, in company with his friend Brandy or with Tinkle the Cat...chasing rabbits, etc, etc.”
