John Guillim's A Display of Heraldry 1724

£200.00

Product description

Printed in 1724
A stunning book which delves into the history of heraldry. The book begins by looking at some of the symbols that can be found on coats of arms, such as birds, flowers and animals, and explores their significance. To add, Guillim looks at the different coats of arms and associated customs for royalty and nobility, the military chain of command and religious figures in both England and overseas. The book also gives information about civil honours by looking at some of the blazons for the Tobacco-Pipe-Makers Company, The Society of Gardiners and The Company of Clockmakers to name but a few. Furthermore, Guillim presents the heraldry of towns and cities in England. This book contains a vast array of beautiful illustrations and detailed pictorial inserts throughout.

Sixth Edition. Book shows signs of age including tanning/foxing on most pages, wear to cover and tearing to some page edges. Spine has started to come away from cover. Book is written in old English so some spellings will be different. Book has possibly been re-covered and rebound. Fading on some pages means that some sections of the book will be faint but readable.
