Hardback bound in dark blue cloth with title in gilt on spine; 8vo., 160 pp; endpapers illustrated with family tree of Fry and Gurney families; 15 b/w images in four groups; illustrated D/J. Book condition: VG, slight bump to bottom of spine, endpapers marked by edges of D/J; signed and dedicated by editor on title page. D/J condition: VG, clear plastic laminated cover with unprotected edges, which show some shelf-wear; not price clipped.
"Katherine Fry, the eldest child of the famous Quaker reformer Elizabeth Fry, was born in 1801. In her seventies, she began in her fine, careful handwriting to compile this family chronicle in a vast leather book. Though she used Fry and Gurney family journals and letters, she relied chiefly on her own acute memory and eye for the right enlivening detail".
