Life in Ponds and Streams

£50.00 Out Of Stock

Product description

This is an old book but in good condition. No dust jacket. Good and strong front and back boards except for some very slight wear at the edges and on the spine. Some writing on the front page. There are several missing illustrations that apparently have been cut out. Slightly cracked spine.

This book is a comprehensive and well illustrated guide to freshwater aquatic life. Written for the young observer but by no means simplified or lacking detail. Furneaux was Science Master at Peckham Pupil Teachers Centre, later becoming principal of the Science and Evening Institute at Peckham. A good book that was reprinted many times. "Let my readers, net in hand, ramble to the neighbouring ponds and streams, following the simple instructions given in these pages, and they will find that everywhere the water teems with life, and yields such a charming variety of forms as can hardly be found elsewhere within such a small space." Chapters include:- On collecting in ponds and streams; The collecting of minute forms of life. The use of the microscope; The pond-hunter's museum - preservation of natural objects; Aquaria and their management; Lower forms of pond life; Worms, leeches, and their allies; Freshwater molluscs; Freshwater crustraceans and spiders; Aquatic insects; Fishes for the aquarium; Amphibians.

Oxfam Bookshop Bath

The Bath Oxfam Books and Music shop has been open since 2001. We stock a wide selection of books, vinyl, cds and dvds but always welcome donations to keep our shelves full and interesting. Following our shop refit in 2009 we have a modern, bright and spacious interior where customers are welcome to browse at their leisure. We do not specialise in any one area but often seem to do particularly well with History books and Vinyl. Thanks to the wonderful donations we receive on a daily basis through the door, and from our local Book Banks, we offer our customers a fantastic range of stock both in the shop and online. Please come and see for yourselves!
