Livre d’Or de la Santé
Bong & Cie, Paris; nd; 2nd edition.
2 volumes: text entirely in French.
Hardbacks; 160 x 225 mm; pictorial and decorative coloured boards; xiv & 1788 pages (total) plus 8 extra pages interleaved between pages 952 and 953; all edges marbled; decorative endpapers. No dust jackets.
430 figures in the text in the two volumes. Seven fold-out anatomical diagrams (volume I), and 20 coloured plates (Tableaux) and 10 more fold-out anatomical diagrams (volume II).
The books are in poor condition. The covers are a little grubby with bumping and wear. The back cover of volume I and the anatomical diagrams inside are water damaged. Volume I is bowed concave, and volume II concave and convex. Page end tanning and tanning internally, and some shelf wear both volumes.
Volume I: cracking along the gutter between the front free endpaper and the title page, and between pages 910 and 911. The binding is otherwise generally sound. Foxing, some small dog ears, and marks here and there.
Volume II: Pages relating to Tableau II, III, and IV; Tableau XIV, XV, and XVI; and Tableau XVIII, XIX, and XX are detached. The remaining binding is otherwise generally sound. Foxing and some small dog ears.
The volumes are an illustrated guide to hygiene and health at the beginning of the twentieth century, and will be of historical interest.
