London: the Unique City and Georgian London

£20.00

Product description

Two fascinating volumes on the architectural history and development of London. Originally written in 1934, London: the Unique City is an exploration of why London, uniquely in Europe, developed outwards rather than upwards. It is a visual and historical study of the city with chapters on London Houses; London Parks; Town Planning Schemes in 1666 and The True and Sad Story of the Regent's Street. Altogether it represents "probably one of the most fascinating and readable books about the English capital to be written" in the 20th century. This is a paperback volume printed in 1961 and is in good condition with the exception of underlining in biro in three chapters. Illustrated with plans, floorplans and black and white photographs.

Georgian London, written by the leading 20th century architectural historian John Summerson, is a history of the growth of London in a specific period. It covers both public and domestic architecture with chapters on churches, great estates and theatres. It is also illustrated with plans and black and white photographs.

Both books have previous owners names written inside the front cover and Georgian London also contains a book plate.

NOTE: London: the Unique City is a paperback.
