L'opera dei pupi.

£29.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

A wonderful large format book on L'Opera dei Pupi. These itinerant story telling companies travelled through Sicily reciting folk tales, epics, heroic poems and Le Morte d'Arthur, etc.. The companies travelled in very colourful wagons pulled by donkeys. They lent their voices to the puppets recounting their deeds. They also conveyed news to illiterate villagers often cut off from national events. The tradition lasted well into modern days since medieval times but now has very possibly died out. The Sicilian publisher is the celebrated Sellerio editore Palermo. This hardback book is in very good condition but the dust jacket is worn with some tears repaired with adhesive tape - see images attached. No marks or inscriptions. Not ex-library
