Love Revealed, Simeon Solomon and the Pre-Raphaelites, Colin Cruise

£14.99

Product description

Love Revealed marks the centenary of the death of Simeon Solomon (1840-1905), a leading painter of the Pre-Raphaelite group of young artists that formed around Dante Gabriel Rossetti in the mid-nineteenth century.

Solomon's early paintings of biblical and classical studies, which were informed by his Jewish heritage, brought a unique sensibility to Victorian art and enjoyed critical success.

His professional career was effectively destroyed in 1873, when we was arrested for indecency.  Solomon continued to paint and draw, even when living on streets, and he became the chosen cult artist of young aesthetes, followers of Oscar Wilde.

This is the first major survey of Solomon's varied and dramatic career. It reconsiders the artist's life and work and his relationship to Pre-Raphaelitism and Aestheticism, and his influence on late nineteenth century art.
