Lucid Dreams: The Films of Krzysztof Kieslowski Edited by Paul Coates

£22.99

Product description

By the end of his life, Krzysztof Kieslowski had established himself as one of Europe's leading filmmakers. The agnostic spirituality of The Decalogue, the lyrical enigmas of The Double Life of Veronique, and the lucid pairings of colours and concepts in the Three Colours trilogy had earned him fame well beyond his native Poland.

This new book provides a collection of essays by prominent Polish, British and American scholars. It examines not only the late films that represent the fullest flowering of Kieslowski's talent, but also the often-neglected early ones, thus surveying his entire career. The essays explore such questions as the aesthetic of the documentaries, the position of women in his work, his relationship to the "Cinema of Moral Anxiety", and the deliberate abandonment of politics in his last films. The volume also includes a complete filmography, one of the last interviews of Kieslowski, and an extensive bibliography of the burgeoning international literature on this major director.

Overall in good condition but has a tear in the front cover.
