WAS £50.00 £25.00

Product description

Manual of British Water Engineering Practice, vols I and II. William Oswald Skeat (ed).

Two titles published for The Institution of Water Engineers by W. Heffer & Sons Limited. Fourth edition, 1969. Both owned by the Chester Waterworks Company, whose library stamp appears on both paste downs.

Vol I: Organisation and Management.
Dust jacket is shabby and torn to all edges. Plum faces with yellow text, discoloured by time and energy; spine sunned to off-yellow. Not price clipped: £11 0s. 0d. Excellent plum morocco with gold text to spine. Unfortunate water staining to top half of rear board and top edge of block: it has taken the sheen away and left a matt white finish. Small dent to front board. pp 319.

Little read reference copy from the vaults of Chester Water. comprehensive treatment of the subject; nice fold-out organisational charts. Some pages with corner creases (3cms) - these have been there since leaving the publishers and are not due to mishandling. No internal marks.

Vol II: Engineering Practice.
Dust jacket as for Vol I: discoloured and torn, spine sunned. Fine plum morocco with gilt spine; excellent condition. Touching printed dedication to Aubrey Hobbs M.I.C.E., a giant in the field of Water Management.
More wonderful fold-out charts. On p 447 there is a logarithmic diagram for mixed-flow pump, indicating many technicalities of the subject. It has a helpful tracing paper tape marker. A few b/w plates and hundreds of charts, tables and formulae. Tucked inside the rear board are a dozen or so outstanding technical charts that have never seen the light of day

The title included two further volumes, not included herewith.

Oxfam Bookshop Market Harborough

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller. Oxfam bookshops offer a wider selection of books than most shops, from modern fiction and leisure interest to more specialist subjects, classics, and rare or collectable books. We also stock an attractive range of greetings cards and a good selection of stationery. Come and browse!

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
