Méditations des Evangiles de l'Année

£19.99 Out Of Stock

Product description

Méditations des Evangiles de l'Année. This famous
French book of Meditations on the Gospels for
Holy Days was a long-term top seller. It was compiled
by Jean-Pierre Medaille, a French Jesuit priest best
known for founding the Congregation of the Sisters
of St Joseph in 1650. This congregation of nuns was
destroyed in the French Revolution, but its successor
is still active, especially in the United States.
This book was first published in 1703 and praised for
its clarity and directness. Written almost entirely in
French with quotations from the Bible in Latin, it was
reissued more than 50 times over more than 200 years.
This copy was published in Paris in 1847 and is
in excellent condition. Faint handwriting in English
can be made out at the start: "Belonging to the Convent
of our Blessed Lady of  Consolation". The book also
carries on its title page the library stamp of the convent,
better known as Stanbrook Abbey near Worcester.
