Volume 1 covers artistic and literary activity starting with the author's boyhood in Bradford, the Slade School in London, to Paris. Accounts of friendship and correspondence with Degas, Whistler, Verlaine, Pater, Wilde, Beardsley, Conder, Dowson, Coquelin, Beerbohm, Steer, Sickert, Craig and John. Volume 2 covers the author's life in London up to the out break of war and his old intimacy with Conder, Steer, Rodin, Orpen, Beerbohm and Craig. it also covers new friendships including Conrad, Hudson, Wells, Gill, Galsworthy, Fields, Epstein, Darwin, the brothers Nash and Spencer, Lawrence, Hodgson, Davies, Stephens and others. He describes a visit to Berlin, a pilgrimage to India, a journey to the US, life on a Gloucestershire farm and experiences as one of the Official British Artists at the front during WW1 and as a Canadian Official Artist after the Armistice. There follows the years in London after the War culminating in his appointment as the principal of the Royal College of Art.

Used hard back books with original dust covers in very good condition commensurate with age. yellowing of pages and shelf wear on dust covers.
