Mother Courage - Folio 1965

£9.99

Product description

Johann von Grimmelshausen was the father of the modern German novel and influenced it as Defoe did the English novel a few years later. This Folio Society first edition version was published in 1965 it has been translated by Walter Wallich and also includes illustrations by Fritz Wegner.

Courage is one of most indomitable women in European literature and a feminist icon for our times. This novel is about a young girl caught up in the turmoil of the Thirty Years War, she survives, even prospers, by the use of her native cunning and sexual attraction. Completely amoral, she flits from man to man, having a succession of husbands and lovers, and ends her life with a band of gypsies.

This hardback book is in a just as new condition, it comes with a slipcase that has kept the book from being damage. The book itself is cloth boards and has a gold gilt title on the spine. There is an inscription on the inside cover from a previous owner (as seen in photos).
