The autobiography of the financier and patron of music. Many anecdotes about musical personalities in late 1800s and early 1900s, having been brought up with the Mendelssohn family, and including full-length portraits of his friends Clara Schumann, Brahms and Joachim.

Hardback book in good condition. Ends of spine and corners bumped. Cracking between some gatherings. Slight foxing on fore edge of text block and some pages. Minor damage to a few pages, not affecting the text. One page discoloured by postcard to previous owner. Signed dedication on front free endpaper "in memory of the author" by the author's second wife, Antonia Speyer, dated February 1st 1938. Dust jacket in fair condition. in protective wrapper. Chipping and paper loss at top of spine. Shelfwear to edges. Flaps creased.

Oxfam Books & Music Berkhamsted

Located in the centre of the historic market town, we are open seven days a week. You will find a wide and interesting range of stock, including a great selection of children's books, popular and classical music on vinyl and CD, vintage Penguins and other paperbacks, and quirky and collectable items. Our stock is selected by knowledgeable volunteers, catering for both general readers and specialists. We are happy to check our backroom stock for wanted items and also offer a request service. Our themed windows are usually changed every two weeks, with our December Christmas displays offering a diverse and unusual range of gift ideas.

We welcome your donations, which can be brought to the rear of the building (via the Lower Kings Road Car Park). Please contact us before bringing large quantities to discuss arrangements.
