Plant and Animal Biology volume 1

£7.99

Product description

Hardback dark grey cloth with dust jacket.
Published by Pitman
Third edition 1968 (1970 reprint).
Condition: Book is in very good condition but does show signs of use, light bump to top front board, top spine edge light fold due to use, shelf rubbing to lower fore page edges, previous owners name neatly printed on front free end-paper. Dust jacket is complete and intact but has been covered in some form of protective cover which is stuck down and wraps around the edges. Light fading to spine and small adjacent strip on front, light ware to edges and some evidence of handling which should clean off.
This is the first part of a textbook in two I volumes, written by two very experienced teachers of their subjects. The whole work is a very comprehensive' and modern treatment of Botany, Zoology and Biology, suitable for use by students who are preparing for any examination in these subjects at the G.C.E. Advanced and Scholarship standard. It will be found useful also to First Year University Students and to those taking biological subjects as ancillaries to degrees. One outstanding feature is the approach through an Integration of the biological sciences, coupled with the necessary physics and chemistry, but with the content so arranged as to allow the use of the books for the separate studies of Botany and Zoology as well as Biology.
This part, Volume 1, includes all the Systematic, Morphological, Anatomical and Histological details of a wide variety of plants and animals, presented in such a way as to stress the fundamental links between environment, structure and function, and to bring out the broad evolutionary trends within each kingdom. Drawings and diagrams, without exception, relate to the text and number over one thousand. Nearly two hundred and fifty examination questions, selected from seven University Examination Boards, are appended. For the third edition, the principles of classification chapter has been modified, and a new appendix added on Coelomate Animals V: Mollusca. Minor amendments and additions have been made throughout.

Oxfam Bookshop St Albans

Oxfam is the UK's largest second hand bookseller, but it doesn't stop there. We sell a great range of donated music as well. Whether it's vintage LPs or the latest modern fiction you want, we're well worth a look! We also sell greetings cards for every occasion. And of course we have some great stock for sale on Oxfam's Online Shop, too. Call us to find out more.

Could you help us by collecting donations from donors homes? Our shop receives many offers of generous donations that we have to turn down as we do not have volunteers able to collect. We would ask you to collect in your own car, at your convenience and reimburse your petrol costs. It might be a couple of times a month and would make a really big difference to our ability to make money.
